Policewoman Drunk-Driving Given A Suspended Jail Term

It would have been different even if she had met with that crash

Based on the story http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/north_east/6976596.stm Last Update: Monday, 3 September 2007.

Jane Caroline Storey, 39, Cheshire constable for 18 years given four months jail sentence suspended for 12 months and a three-year driving ban. In addition she was ordered to pay £60 and placed under supervision, most probably loose her job.

Police were called to the incident at Kinnerton Lane and found Storey car crashed into a ditch and overturned, she with minor injuries. When breathalysed she had 134 micrograms of alcohol in her breath - above the limit of 35, which is almost four times over the drink-drive limit.

Storey's marriage to another police officer had broken down and they had been through an acrimonious divorce. A mother of two, she was left looking after the family and holding down a demanding job.

That day she was off-duty had been drowning her sorrows when the children had gone for a holiday to their grandparents. She had been to the home of a friend, where two bottles of wine were drunk. She also had a drink earlier that day she told the police.

I really feel sorry for Jane because here I understand that the drunk driving basically not her fault perhaps her breaking relationships was a contributing factor. But it is mainly because what she doesn’t know! The alcohol drink she was consuming especially that wine has a high alcohol contend very dangerous for any one like her to take in such situation! Instead if she had a choice of drinking a wine having around 2% or less alcohol content, the situation would have been quite different to the extent even if she had met with that crash!

This much explanation is definitely not enough to prove why she is not responsible for that drunk driving. To know more read my blog post:
